On Friday, March 14, 2025, Social Value Indonesia (SVID) held its monthly Online Coffee Chat exploring Principle 2 of the 8 Principles of Social Value: “Understanding What Changes”.
The session opened with remarks from Purnomo, General Secretary of SVID, emphasizing that understanding change involves deep process, stakeholder engagement, and integrity in impact presentation.
Keynote speaker Ummu Mukarnawati (Co-Founder & Program Director, PT Gagas Inspirasi Nusantara) shared insights from 20+ years of CSR and impact measurement experience. Moderated by Citra Widuri (Executive Director, SVID), practitioners reflected on field realities and best practices.
What is "Understanding What Changes"?
Technically, this principle requires identifying, defining, and verifying changes experienced by stakeholders—positive or negative, intended or unintended—as defined from stakeholder perspectives.
Implementation involves:
- Meaningful stakeholder engagement (interviews, FGDs, field observations).
- Utilizing Theory of Change to link activities to outcomes.
- Distinguishing outputs from outcomes.
- Data validation using triangulated sources.
Action Steps & Resolution
SVID members committed to advocating SROI integrity, embedding Theory of Change, and developing standard report review processes across Indonesia.
